What is Ethanol Fuel?

Ethanol is an alternative fuel that was fermented and distilled from forms of sugar and starch crops (corns, wheat, and barley).

What is Ethanol gas made from?

Ethanol alternative gas is made from mainly sugar and starch crops.  A good example of this is corns.  Since we as Americans have a large amount of corns, we can put the corns to use and provide us with the energy needed to power our every day transportation usage.

Research shows that a new form of waste agriculture can be used for ethanol alternative fuels.  Examples are corn stalks, trees, and switch grass.  Companies are now trying to produce ethanol by recycling "old": candies, newspapers, grass clippings, and beetle yeast.  By doing so we'll be able to further extend our source of ethanol alternative fuel.  This will make ethanol more promising, in replacing oil and gasoline.  With progress, ethanol alternative fuel can be the fuel of the future.

What are its benefits?

Ethanol alternative fuel will help emits 90% less carbon into the air.  With such a high percentage, our environment will change vastly.
Ethanol fuel also promotes consumers to buy domestic fuel which will help our economy since we will rely less on foreign oils.

Types of Ethanol

There are three major types of ethanol:

  • E95: Pure Ethanol before it is denatured
  • E85: 85% of Ethanol mixed with 15% of gasoline.  This is the leading alternative fuel source in the U.S.
  • E10: 10% of Ethanol mixed with 90% gasoline.  This is the most common form currently used
